Description

This niche is located in Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻), Fowan (佛灣), Dazu (大足) District, Chongqing. The central wall depicts a pair of standing bodhisattva images. Both heads are lost. The one on the left wears a double-collar drooping cassock, while the right one is adorned with shawls and pretty accessories. A pair of feitian 飛天 (Sanskrit: apsaras) is carved on the canopy above these two bodhisattvas. A rectangular, plaque-shaped object is carved between them. Both side walls contain small donor images distributed in three layers. Most are badly eroded.
