Description

This niche is located in Beishan Rock Carvings (北山石刻), Fowan (佛灣), Dazu (大足) District, Chongqing. A seated Buddha statue flanked by two standing disciples and two bodhisattva statues is depicted. The cross-legged Buddha statue is placed on a lotus throne. It has flame motifs peach-shaped and oval halos behind its head and body. With the palm facing upward, its left hand is placed on its thigh, while the right hand touches its right knee. The heads of the two disciples are damaged. Both of their palms join together to form an Añjali Mudra (Chinese: heshi 合十). The two bodhisattvas have peach-shaped halos. The objects they are holding cannot be identified.
