Complex of niches (Niches 15, 16, 17, 18, 19), Qianfo zhai (千佛寨) Anderl, Christoph; Yu, Sau Ling Wendy

Description

This complex of niches is located in Qianfo zhai 千佛寨, Anyue xian 安岳縣, Sichuan sheng 四川省. There are altogether five niches distributed in two layers. In the upper layer we find niches 17, 18 and 19 (from the right to the left) while in the lower layer we find niches 15 and 16 (from the right to the left). According to the inscriptions in niches 17 and 18, the complex was probably created in the Tang Dynasty. It might have been renovated during the Song Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty.
