Niche with one Buddha and four bodhisattvas, Qianfo zhai (千佛寨) Anderl, Christoph
Description
Located in Qianfo zhai 千佛寨, Anyue xian 安岳縣, Sichuan sheng 四川省. This niche hosts a severely damaged, Buddha-like statue. Two bodhisattvas stand on either side. These statues may have been carved before the Song dynasty and the niche was probably excavated during the Latter Shu 後蜀, one of the Five Dynasties 五代 (902-979). (Conclusions based on personal communication with professor Yang Xiaodong, May 30, 2022). The photographs show: A side view of the niche, photo taken from the right side of the niche [1]. A close up of the three figures in the middle of the niche [2]. A close up of the right side of the niche [3]. A close up of the left side of the niche [4]. A close up of the two Bodhisattva-like figures of the right side [5]. An overview of the inscription on the right side of the niche [6] [7]. Metadata created by: Xixi Jia.
