Daoist-Buddhist statues in niche 23, Yuanjue dong 圓覺洞 Anderl, Christoph

Description

Niche 23 in Yuanjue dong 圓覺洞, Anyue xian 安岳縣, Sichuan sheng 四川省 shows a Daoist deity (Ch. Tianzun 天尊) at the center accompanied by shoe-clad jade-maidens (Ch. yunü 玉女), perfect beings (Ch. zhenren 真人), and eight divine characters in the background [1]. On the left wall, Laozi (Ch. Laojun 老君) carrying a fan and two disciples of him are also portrayed [2]. On the right wall, Buddha Śākyamuni is holding an alms bowl while making the meditation mudra [3].
