Description
Sakyamuni Buddha with two other seated buddhas at Wofo yuan complex 臥佛院, Anyue xian 安岳縣, Sichuan sheng 四川省. The head of the reclining Buddha stands perpendicular to this group of statues. These three buddhas celebrate the infinite and unbroken succession of Buddhas in the universe. A possible intepretation would be to consider the three Buddhas as a represantation of the Buddhas of the Three Ages (Ch. sanshi fo 三世佛; based on personal communication with professor Sueyling Tsai, May 27, 2022).
