Kaharingan also known as “Dayak Hinduism”, “Agama Kaharingan”, “Kepercayaan Kaharingan”, “Hindu Kaharingan” Noseworthy, William
Description
Kaharingan is the modern and contemporary name of the Dayak traditional religion that is most clearly understood as a form of Dayak particularist Hinduism. During various points in recent history, this group was subsumed under the classifications of Agama Hindu by the Indonesian state. However, there are substantive differences between the Dayak forms of Hinduism and Hinduism elsewhere in the archipelago that can be explained as a feature of Dayak history, as well as through the ideas of a single figure: Tjilik Riwut.
