The No.8 sutra storage cave at Shijing Mountain (石經山) Baycroft, Anne
Description
There are all together 9 caves in the Sutra Storage Cave area of Shinjing Mountain. They were officially numbered when they were unearth in 1965, as numbering of the caves was needed to arrange rubbings of the stones. Sutra Cave No. 8 was chiselled in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Inside are stored 69 sutras with a total of more than 300 scrolls and 772 slabs. Some of these include the Mahaprajnaparamita sutra (摩訶般若波羅蜜多經). Exterior of the cave is shown in photo 2265.
