Imperial tablet recorded poems written by Emperor Jiaqing when visiting Yunju Temple (雲居寺 嘉慶帝題詩) Baycroft, Anne
Description
The tablet was inscribed with two poems of the Emperor Jiaqing (嘉慶, reigned 1796-1820) in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Both were autographed in 1808 and 1812 during his visits to Yunju Temple. In the second poem, the lower part of the character “雲 (cloud)” was ruined by the Japanese army in 1942. The damaged part now was like a white cloud carrying the remaining part of “雨 (rain)” upon air.
