New house with an added floor Limbu, Bina

Description

Most of the government-approved designs call for one-storey houses or more stringent design measures in response to the widespread destruction of the 2015 earthquake. People however add additional floors utilising timber or corrugated iron sheets, as in this case, to create additional much needed space. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
