Verandah of old houses Limbu, Bina

Description

Rural families are predominantly agricultural and so their old houses usually had large storage spaces for their animals and grains. They also had a veranda that served as storage and also a sitting space for visitors. However, the government-approved house designs neglect to address these housing needs. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
