One-room house of recycled materials Suji, Manoj

Description

This less-than ideal one-room house has incorporated horizontal bands, a widely recommended earthquake resistant building technique, and used recycled corrugated iron sheets for its roof. Although one room houses are encouraged in rural areas as being safer during earthquakes, they are insufficient in providing space to families. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
