House under construction using mixed technology and materials Suji, Manoj
This house is utilising a mix of technology and materials. While the walls are dry masonry, (a more traditional technique, it uses reinforced concrete horizontal bands and pillars at the corners, which were increasingly used after the 2015 earthquake as they were considered to be earthquake resistant building techniques. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
