Temporary shelter made of split wood Subedi, Prakash

Description

Temporary shelters after the 2015 earthquake were built with a variety of materials, including the old remains of the houses and corrugated sheets which were frequently used to build both the sides and roofs of these shelters. It is extremely uncommon to see temporary shelters made of split logs, because wood is rare and corrugated iron sheets are easily available. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
