Reconstructed house in use Suji, Manoj

Description

This house is larger than others in the area and does not follow the recommended house designs of the government which were distributed after the 2015 earthquake to aid in constructing earthquake resistant housing. However, it has followed the building codes by incorporating prominent horizontal bands, by having lower walls in the first floor whose height has been increased by use of tin sheets in the gables, and the weight of the roof has been kept low by using corrugated iron sheets. Taken during the 3rd phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
