Tall, narrow building undergoing construction Limbu, Bina
Building codes provide recommendations for the foundation-height ratio where the foundation would be significantly larger than what is seen in this building. Although narrow, tall buildings often suffered the most damage during the 2015 earthquake, such buildings are common in core city areas of Kathmandu as small land plots get divided among family members. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
