Tall, damaged building on a small footprint Limbu, Bina

Description

With the division of ancestral property into smaller units by family members, especially in the Kathmandu Valley, families have had to build multi-storey buildings on a small footprint in order to have enough space to meet their needs. These usually narrow buildings fared badly in the 2015 earthquake. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
