Tawa Sattal (resting place) under renovation in Bhaktapur Durbar Square Suji, Manoj
Many of the old buildings from Bhaktapur were damaged during the 2015 earthquake. There has been a tremendous taking on of ownership among the people of Bhaktapur to restore these buildings to their former glory by using traditional knowledge and techniques with user committee-led reconstruction in many instances; however, this renovation was done under the contract system. Taken during the 3rd phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
