Temporary house next to a water well with water purification in place Subedi, Prakash

Description

In addition to water spouts, water wells were also common in the Kathmandu Valley. The importance of these wells increased as the water spouts dried due to lowering of the water table due to excessive extraction. Water wells are by their nature not covered, so their water needs to purified to be potable. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
