Installing a gable on a house Limbu, Bina

Description

Many of the rebuilt houses after the 2015 earthquake will have low ceilings, in part due to the new earthquake resistant building codes. People have been adding gables to increase the height of the ceiling and in some cases additional floor. Taken during the 1st phase of fieldwork conducted by the research team based at Social Science Baha in Kathmandu, Nepal, as part of the SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, ‘Expertise, Labour and Mobility in Nepal’s Post-Conflict, Post-Disaster Reconstruction’.
