Buddha statues in the Western Niches of the Hall of the Stone Buddha Jia, Jinhua

Description

This series of stone statues of a Buddha, dated 1085 (Song 宋 Dynasty), is located on the western side of the Hall of Stone Buddha at Sitou Town (寺頭鎮), Linqü (臨朐), Shandong province. Photos 1- 7 each show a niche that contains or used to contain a buddha statue. Full description and measurements of niches and statues are recorded below: 1. In the first image, the buddha figure's head is missing. The size of the figure is 28cm (H) x 20cm (W). The size of the niche is 46cm (H) x 30cm (W). 2. The buddha's head is missing. Inside the niche it was suspected to have inscriptions, but they are now illegible -- only two words "niche" and "saint"「kan 龕 sheng聖」remained. Statue is 30cm (H) x 20cm (W). Niche is 40cm (H) x 28cm (W). 3. The buddha's head is missing, but the clothing pattern remains clear. The clothes he was wearing are akin to a Daoist robe. Statue is 29cm (H) x 26cm (W). Niche is 66cm (H) x 43cm (W). Image is blurry. 4. The buddha's head is partially missing. Statue is 33cm (H) x 20cm (W). Niche is 42cm (H) x 40cm (W). 5. The buddha's head is partially missing. Statue is 28cm (H) x 19cm (W). Niche is 35c (H) x 34cm (W). 6. The main statue inside this niche is possibly Daoist. The head is partially missing. The statue is flanked by two standing statues on the left and right sides respectively. Main statue is 76cm (H) x 47cm (W). Both standing statues are 47cm (H) x 16cm (W). 7. The buddha statue is standing and its head iss partially missing. Beside the statue it is suspected to have some animal engraving. Main statue is 35cm (H) x 23cm (W). Niche is 51cm (H) x 35cm (W).
