Commemorative Plaque outlining a brief history of Matsuo Shrine. The initial shrine was founded in 701 CE by the Hata clan. The plaque at the shrine's main entrance reads “It is said that this shrine was created when Hatano Imikitori invited the divine spirit from Mt. Matsuo as the guardian deity of the Hata Clan and constructed the shrine building for it.”
