The .uons from K vere tracked into a 32 vedge aluaini. polarimeter where they were stoppeM~ The polariaeter vas capable of bandling one event at a time. Because of backgrounds. and the rate aiOwhich the apparatus could take events, the experiaent6wa~ limited to 4.3 x 10 protons/pulse on target. This gave about 3.6 x 10 K /pulse. (1 pulse/l sec @ apx. 33% duty cycle). 1he ~roposed experiaent will use a separated 4.5 GeV/c kaon beam. The decay muons will M stopped in an aluminum polarimeter containing 64 wedges. Tbis polarimeter will allow different wedges to run independently of each other. and as such shoula ~ able to handle 6 to 10 events at once. With these improvements we abould be less rate limited than the previous experi.ent. We a[so plan to improve the trigger to allow us to detect events where the pion i5 emitted -.ckwards as well as those where it is e.itted forwards (in the K+ rest frame).
