Aging in Motion : Support Senior Autonomy in Richmond City Centre Ng, Hoi Ying

Abstract

Why do we care for seniors the way we do? How have historical perceptions shaped current understandings of aging and care? And what transformative approaches can guide how we design for senior care in urban environments? In response to the global rise in aging populations, this project repositions senior care as senior autonomy, focusing on Richmond City Centre, British Columbia. Grounded in the “Right to the City” and a relational understanding of autonomy, it explores how urban environments can support inclusive and dignified aging through multiscalar design interventions at the neighborhood, street, and site scale.
