Brain sensorimotor changes associated with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis Lamb, Christopher

Description

Christopher Lamb was a semi-finalist in the 2024 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Christopher presented their research, "Brain sensorimotor changes associated with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis". They hope to shed light on knee osteoarthritis, a leading cause of disability worldwide, characterized by joint pain, muscle weakness, and reduced quality of life. Traditionally, diagnosis relies on imaging findings, but their correlation with pain is poor. Pain, especially chronic, involves complex brain evaluation. Christopher employs transcranial magnetic stimulation to measure nerve cell excitation in the brain, comparing individuals with and without knee pain. Their findings will deepen understanding of pain mechanisms and identify brain targets for intervention, aiming to alleviate pain and enhance quality of life. Christopher Lamb is completing their Master of Science in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Lara Boyd and Dr. Jackie Whittaker.
