Novel cell therapies for immune tolerance in organ transplantation Halvorson, Torin
Description
Torin Halvorson was a semi-finalist in the 2024 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Torin presented their research, "Novel cell therapies for immune tolerance in organ transplantation". They hope to revolutionize organ transplantation by harnessing the power of regulatory T cells (Tregs) as a cell therapy to prevent transplant rejection. While current Treg therapies have shown promise, they face challenges in potency and long-term efficacy. Torin's PhD focuses on testing Tregs targeting new donor molecules to enhance therapy effectiveness and durability, potentially improving outcomes for transplant recipients worldwide. Torin Halvorson is pursuing their MD/PhD in Experimental Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Megan Levings.
