Envisioning doctoral education in Mongolia Gantogtokh, Orkhon
Description
Orkhon Gantogtokh was a semi-finalist in the 2024 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Orkhon presented their research, "Envisioning Doctoral Education In Mongolia." They hope to investigate the quality of doctoral education in Mongolia and provide research-informed directions for its improvement, contributing to the scientific capabilities of Mongolia. Mongolia's higher education landscape presents a paradoxical situation, marked by significant growth in the higher education system and a substantial number of graduate degree holders, yet an evident deficiency in its research output. This paradox underscores potential issues in the quality of doctoral education within the country among other factors. By investigating the underpinnings of Mongolia's doctoral education, this study aims to provide a research-informed direction for doctoral education in Mongolia, employing a qualitative research design. Orkhon Gantogtokh is completing their PhD in the Department of Education under the supervision of Dr. Lesley Andres.
