From Place To Home : Opportunities in Office to Residential Conversions Trembling, Anaïs Sandrine
Abstract
Many cities are simultaneously experiencing rising office vacancy rates and a housing affordability crisis. These two issues can be addressed simultaneously through office to residential conversions. In conducting a thorough investigation of past and current office to residential conversions, it is evident that there are a multitude of risks however also a myriad of unexplored opportunities related to these types of adaptive reuse projects. Rather than trying to mould typical residential floor plans into existing office structures, this project will present ways in which architects and designers can learn from the typical office typology in order to make better housing.
