Equity Unchained : Leveling Up Anti-Racist Policies In Lower Mainland Schools Pattar, Serena Kaur
Abstract
This paper explores the implementation and challenges of proposed anti-racist and racial equity policies within large public school districts in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. A comprehensive investigation of policies and practices examines the district's commitment to fostering inclusivity and equity. The research assesses the effectiveness of these policies in creating a culture of inclusivity. By analyzing district initiatives, such as staff roles and district mandates, to increase the integration of diverse cultural perspectives into the curriculum, such as defined staff roles and district mandates, the study seeks to determine how these efforts support students and staff from varied backgrounds, particularly Black, Indigenous, and people of colour students and staff. This paper will address the scope of current Anti-Racism and Racial Equity policies, evaluate their impact, and propose evidence-based recommendations for enhancing the district’s approach in creating more equitable and culturally diverse learning environments.
