How to Save Your Local Mini Mall : On the Future of Mini Malls within the Greater Toronto Area Wakil, Zainab
Abstract
When developers come into an existing community, it often alters the sociocultural fabric of an area, evident in the demolition of mini malls for luxury condos all over Canada. This project aims to preserve existing communities by advocating that cultural sustainability is architectural conservation. Through reimagining economic models and spatial configurations, the project envisions the transformation of a mall into a mixed-use hub integrating housing with commercial spaces, fostering community resilience despite rapid change.
