Trash Mountain Scott, Matthew

Abstract

Trash Mountain proposes an engaging, multi-use outdoor space for non-traditional recreation activities as an end-use plan for the Vancouver Landfill. The design will focus on the creation of designated spaces for activities that include mountain biking, disc golf and skateboarding, and the community building that these activities offer. These recreational pursuits are often forgotten in the planning of outdoor spaces and as such are often left with minimal space, crowding and limiting people’s abilities to enjoy the activities they love. With the imminent closure of the Vancouver Landfill, the opportunity arises to create an enthralling, diverse space on a mountainous pile of waste.
