Rain Path James, Gray
Abstract
Vancouver has a reputation as a city with a strong connection to nature, but much of the city sacrifices this connection for the sake of efficiency. This sense of connection is vitally important, in the words of Nancy Turner “...we need to be able to weave ourselves into the matrix of our world” (Turner 38). Rain defines Vancouver but the city is built as if rain is foreign, storm drains channel water efficiently and discreetly underground. Shortly after hitting the ground the rain is made to disappear. Rain is treated as a problem. This project seeks to determine how the breakdown of infrastructure can become an opportunity for rain to go on a journey.
