Bumping up against grand narratives : a self-study Dash, Amy K.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine my experiences in the education system to see how these events have influenced the educator I have become. By inquiring narratively into these experiences, I reflected on the role of relationships and what it means to be a “good” teacher. I explored what it means to teach from an Indigenous worldview; the pedagogical pathways to engage and honour Indigenous learners in the classroom; and how the process of reconciliation in education can contribute to a greater understanding of our diverse histories and experiences. These all contributed to my evolving understanding of decolonization and indigenization and their implications for professional practice.
