The Staging of Life : Off (Off) The Rack House : how fashion meets housing Ireland, Emily
Abstract
Off (Off) the Rack The home is the stage in which we live our lives however, the way in which we approach architecture today prioritizes efficiency and standardization thus resulting in homogenous living conditions and uninspiring nothingness. While capital driven production does have its reasoning within our built environment, the value of venustas and the human experience should be reevaluated. This project explores the world of haute couture and the art of fashion showcasing - an industry driven by newness and experimentation that redefines itself seasonally each year. One can appreciate its dedication to craftsmanship, tailored human centered designs and strong power of story telling with immersive runway experiences that transcend beyond the fashion realm. Inspired by haute couture’s approach to design this project aims to connect one more deeply with the space they inhabit and honour their individual life experiences.
