Toulouse and to Find : learning to loiter in La Ville Rose Gmeinweser, Angela

Abstract

This project is a series of psychogeographic maps guided by women wandering the streets of Toulouse. As their stories overlap, they form a manual that rebuilds ties to public space centered around women’s rights to pause, get lost, and feel curious about the city. Contrary to other actors that limit women’s access, such as sexualized violence or cautionary tales, in this project women rewrite the city and share ways to reclaim public space. Ultimately, by using embroidery as a principal method of representation, this thesis proposes a new spatial ontology, one that slows down to honour narratives of the body and care in the story of the city.
