Debbie Pierce was a semi-finalist in the 2022 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Debbie presented their research, "The Impact of Land Rights and Deforestation in the Colombian Amazon on the Livelihoods of Rural Women.” They hope to shed light on the link between conflict, land rights and deforestation, which will likely be exacerbated by climate change and other global shocks such as the COVID 19 pandemic that could impact both migration and supply chains to rural areas. Debbie Pierce is completing their PhD in Forest & Conservation Sciences in the Faculty of Forestry at The University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Terry Sunderland.
