Icíar Fernández Boyano was a third-place finalist in the 2022 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Icíar presented their research, "Making sense of preeclampsia where it begins: in the placenta." They hope to explore a type of pregnancy complication known as preeclampsia. By trying to define its subtypes according to their DNA patterns in the placenta. Icíar Fernández Boyano is completing their PhD in Genome Science and Technology in the Faculty of Science at The University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Wendy Robinson.
