Democracy as Design : Site Advocacy Tools of Politics for Landscape Architects Rothery, Christopher
Abstract
This design project proposes a new method of site design that borrows political tools for land design from the American environmental movement. By situating landscape architecture at the intersection of politics, subpolitics, and design, this new methodology can be understood in its theoretical framework. A brief analysis of the ways lands have been designed by politics Identifies some potential new tools for designers to begin integrating into their practices. The site advocacy method is developed through a campaign for a new park at Long Beach California’s Queen Mary.
