Il divertimenti barocco Girard, Jonathan; Sokolović, Ana

Description

In 2019, Ana Sokolović participated in UBC Library’s Canadian Women Composers Collection by submitting sketches for the musical work "Il divertimenti barocco." The composition was to be premiered by the Nova Scotia Symphony; however, the premiere had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. After meeting with Dr. Jonathan Girard, Conductor of the University of British Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Ana granted UBCSO permission to debut the piece. Captured on video is the musical composition’s premier under the baton of Dr. Jonathan Girard leading the UBCSO with Daniel Tsui, solo violin, and Christina Hutten, solo harpsichord, performing at UBC’s Chan Centre on December 16, 2020. Watch and listen as young musicians navigate the demands of performing live as an ensemble under the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic.
