"Unbending the Oak" : music therapy, medicine, and Vancouver's universities Silverman, Michael; Frisch, Larry; Summers, Susan

Description

Dr. Michael Silverman, Dr. Susan Summers and Dr. Larry Frisch spoke about a group of research and other scholarly projects stimulated by the May, 2014 International Roundtable on Music Therapy, Neurological Disorders, and Cognitive Science. They called that conference “Bending the Knotted Oak” after a passage about the reputed power of music that opens a 1697 drama by Congreve. They presented some of Michael’s recent work on music therapy and addictions, Susan’s doctoral work on “Singing as a Healing Influence for Change and Transformation,” some of Larry’s recent writing on music-related synesthesia, and brief summaries of several other projects completed by music therapists and physicians involved with our Roundtable. There will be ample time for discussion of these varied efforts.
