Abstract
The University of British Columbia (UBC) is committed to achieving its ambitious Climate Action Plan 2030 (CAP2030) goals, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 85% by 2030. Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plays a pivotal role in decarbonization, particularly in areas where electrification is not feasible. This project explores RNG’s potential to address specific energy challenges at UBC, such as steam production in laboratories and peak winter heating demands, while complementing the university’s biomass energy systems. The study aims to provide strategic recommendations for RNG integration at UBC, ensuring its effective deployment to maximize environmental and economic benefits while aligning with CAP2030 objectives.
