Description

The inner couplet flanking the alter in the Great Shrine Hall (Daiyū Hōden 雄寶殿) in Manpuku-ji Temple (萬福寺), an Ōbaku 黄檗 Zen temple in Uji 宇治, Kyoto prefecture 京都府, Japan. The inner couplet on the right side in front of the Great Shrine Hall reads "佛是了事漢" (The Buddha is one who achieves enlightenment) (Image 01). The inner couplet on the left side in front of the Great Shrine Hall reads "世豈無全人" (How could the world be devoid of perfect beings?) (Image 02) written by Master Sokuhi Niyoitsu 即非如一 (1616–1671). Sokuhi was a disciple of Master Yinyuan Longqi (Jp. Ingen Ryūki) 隠元隆琦 (1592-1673) at the Wanfu Temple (萬福寺) in Mt. Huangboshan黄檗山, Fuqing 福清, Fujian Province 福建, China.
