Description
Couplet outside the Hall of the Dharma Transmission (Rentou dou 聯燈堂) in Manpuku-ji Temple (萬福寺), an Ōbaku 黄檗 Zen temple in Uji 宇治, Kyoto prefecture 京都府, Japan. The right couplet reads "One flower blossoms with five petals, Each petal fully sharing its fragrance. 一華開五葉々々悉聯芳" (Image 01). The left couplet reads "One torch divides into a thousand lamps, Each lamp continuing the flame. 一炬分千燈々々皆續燄" (image 02). They are written by Master Kacho Bunshu 華頂文秀 (1740-1827), the twenty-fifth abbot of Manpukuji.
