Fuqing Huangboshan Wanfu Temple (福清黄檗山万福寺) Tang, Rouying

Description

Wanfu Temple (萬福寺) is a Buddhist temple in Mt. Huangboshan黄檗山, Fuqing 福清, Fujian Province 福建, China. The temple was rebuilt in 2019. The temple is believed to be established by Master Zhenggan (正幹禪師). It is where Huangbo Xiyun (黃檗希運) (d. 850) was ordained in 848 and received his dharma name. During the region of Ming Emperor Shenzhong (明神宗) (r.1572-1619), the grand chancellor Ye Xianggao (葉向高) (1559-1627) supported Monk Zhongtian Zhengyuan 中天正圓 (1537–1610) petition requesting a complete set of Chinese Tripiṭaka from the Emperor. In 1630, Miyun Yuanwu (密雲圓悟) (1566-1642) became its abbot. His dharma heir Yinyuan Longqi (Jp. Ingen Ryūki) 隠元隆琦 (1592-1673), the abbot of Wanfu Temple, traveled to Japan and established the Ōbaku school (黃檗宗) and Manpukuji (萬福寺) in Kyoto.
