Description

Kalaviṅka at Yeongamsa Temple Site (靈巖寺址), Hapcheon. The pair of stone sculptures in the form of Kalaviṅka (迦陵頻伽), a fantastical immortal creature in Buddhism with a human head and a bird's torso, along with a long flowing tail, is found at the Yeongamsa Temple Site (靈巖寺址). This site is located at the southern foot of Hwangmaesan Mountain in Dunnae-ri, Gahoe-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The site was once home to a Buddhist temple during the Silla period 新羅 (57 BCE - 935 CE). A short stone stairway is flanked by the two stone Kalaviṅka sculptures.
