This workshop reviews the fundamentals of Indigenous data sovereignty in Canada, including the principles that guide respectful and ethical data management. Specific examples from UBC’s data repositories will demonstrate how data is managed in alignment with OCAP principles (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession), highlighting approaches to metadata, access, and governance that honour Indigenous rights. Presented for the British Library and Datacite UK consortium.
