Orbital exponential sums for prehomogeneous vector spaces Taniguchi, Takashi
Description
Exponential sums arise various context in algebraic and analytic number theory. In this talk, we explain how they may appear when we study prehomogeneous vector spaces. We then outline a new method for evaluating them explicitly. As an application, we show that there are `many' quartic field discriminants with at most eight prime factors. This is a joint work with Frank Thorne.
