Description	In this talk we'll recall how central limit theorems for the linear statistics of beta ensembles imply that certain natural objects of random matrix theory can be described asymptotically in terms of log-correlated Gaussian fields. We'll also briefly discuss a proof of such a central limit theorem for the circular beta ensemble.
