FamilyDittos : reimagining long-distance family communication with AI Tanprasert, Mui

Description

Mui Tanprasert was a semi-finalist in the 2025 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition. Mui presented their research, “FamilyDittos: Reimagining Long-distance Family Communication with AI.” Mui’s FamilyDitto is a platform that uses AI to create digital twins of people, allowing family members to communicate through an AI representation when they’re unavailable. This helps bridge the gap in long-distance relationships but raises ethical concerns about authenticity and the need for customization to suit individual preferences. Mui Tanprasert is completing their PhD in Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science under the supervision of Dr. Joanna McGrenere.
