Abstract
Objective: To examine if remote, culturally-adapted oral health education for child-caregivers of South-Asian ancestry is a feasible and effective strategy to promote child oral health. Methods: The trained caregivers of South-East Asian ancestry and their children aged 6-18 years residing in Greater Vancouver area. Caregivers received an active preventative education and some resources to take home. Child caregiver knowledge pre- and post-education were assessed by a questionnaire, and caregivers’ and children’s oral self-care based on Zoom recordings employing the validated tooth brushing observation form. Results: Post-education, a minimal improvement in caregiver knowledge was observed, while oral self-care skills improved significantly in both caregivers and their children. Conclusions: Culturally-adapted oral health education for child-caregivers of South-Asian ancestry was a feasible and effective strategy to promote child oral health.
